Uninstall Jack on Vista

Jack runs fine on Windows Vista. However the changed filemanagement system in Vista causes the Uninstall program to partly fail. It still removes Jack from the computer, but datafiles containing tournament results etc are not removed. As a consequence the normal procedures don't work for reinstalling purposes. All tournament results and even the registration code are still present. Unfortunately any other problems also persists. On this page we describe how Jack can be completely removed.

Following the below procedure is at your own risk. If you're not confident with the mentioned actions ask a more experienced computerfriend to guide you.

Step 1

Run the Jack Uninstall program, check Delete all the files in the Jack directory.
NOTE: If you saved any personal or important files in the Jack directory you should make a backup copy of it first.

Running UnInstall: Start>All Programs>Jack>Uninstall

Step 2

Now explore your C drive. For example by selecting Start>Computer then right-clicking the C drive icon and selecting explore. It is possible the files are hidden. If that is the case you need to unhide them first.

TIP: To show hidden files in Vista: 1. select a folder in the Explorer 2. select Organize 3. select Folder and Search Options 4. select the View tab, on the bottom of the list you'll find Show hidden files and folders
Doubleclick Users, the user folders will be shown. Now doubleclick the folder with your loginname. Here you doubleclick AppData, Local and VirtualStore. Finally you need to doubleclick Program Files where you'll find the hidden folder with Jack files that Vista created. Select and delete this Jack folder.

So the folder you need to remove has the pathname:
C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Jack, with XXX being your loginname in Vista.

TIP: If you had to unhide the hidden files, you can now hide them again.

Step 3

Jack has now been removed from your computer and can be reinstalled. Do you have multiple updates? It will suffice to install your original Jack, followed by the last update.
