Menton Contestants

The 2003 World Computer Bridge Championship will be held from June 22-27 at the 1st European Open Championships (June 14-28) in Menton (France). Winner of last two championships Jack will try to retain his title. The programs competing are.

Blue Chip Bridge

Blue Chip Bridge is the program entered by Ian Trackman / Mike Whittaker from the United Kingdom. Blue Chip Bridge also participated in last year's championship and finished 5th in the preliminaries.

Bridge Baron

Bridge Baron is the program entered by George Yanakiev / Stephen Smith from the United States. Bridge Baron did not participate last year.

Tom Throop first wrote a computer bridge program in 1958, on a UNIVAC I computer at a US Navy lab in Washington, DC. This program could only finish one round of bidding before running out of memory.
Tom Throop finished the first version of Bridge Baron in 1982. At first, Bridge Baron was sold for computers including the Tandy TRS-80, the Apple II, and the Commodore 64.
In 1983, Tom Throop published the book Computer Bridge. In 1985, he founded Great Game Products.

Jack is the program entered by Hans Kuijf from the Netherlands. Jack also participated in last year's championship and finished 1st in the preliminaries. After winning in the semi finals the program continued to win the tournament.

Meadowlark Bridge

Meadowlark Bridge is the program entered by Rodney Ludwig from the United States. Meadowlark Bridge also participated in last year's championship and finished 6th in the preliminaries.

Micro Bridge

Micro Bridge is the program entered by Tomio en Yumiko Uchida from Japan. Micro Bridge also participated in last year's championship and finished 3rd in the preliminaries. The program reached until the semi finals where it was beaten.

Oxford Bridge

Oxford Bridge is the program entered by Andrew Bracher from the United Kingdom. Oxford Bridge did not participate last year.
